Kuwait Women’s Federation Examines Possibility of Launching Women’s Basketball & Volleyball Leagues

KUWAIT, March 16 (KUNA) — The Chairwoman of Kuwait Women Sports Federation Sheikha Naima Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah said Saturday that the federation is currently examining the possibility of launching women basketball, and volleyball leagues in the near future.
Sheikha Naima said, during her meeting with GCC heads of delegations participating in the third GCC women sport tournament, which was recently held in the Bahraini capital Al-Manama, that she began contacting government entities involved with this issue. Sheikha Naima added that the league will include women teams from Al-Ouyon, Salwa, and Al-Fatah clubs, including engaging teams from the Public Authority for Applied Education and Training.
Sheikha Naima highlighted as well many obstacles and technical difficulties facing women’s teams prior to participating in future tournaments, affirming the important role played by teams’ managers. The Chairwoman added that she will go through a rotating process for managers of the teams, to improve their managing skills and prepare them for future challenges. During the recent tournament in Bahrain, the Kuwaiti team won 22 medals, three of them gold, eight silver medals, and the rest were bronze.
Kuwaiti Women’s Volleyball Team Beats Oman’s & Qadsia Team Beats Kazma In Basketball
MANAMAN, March 6 (KUNA) — Kuwaiti women volleyball team defeated on Wednesday Omani counterpart in the competitions of the third GCC Woman Sport Tournament. In a strong performance by both sides, the Kuwaiti team was able to end the match to their favor winning 3-2 sets. The Kuwaiti team won the first two sets, but the Omani did not give up and won the other two, but the decisive set was once again by the Kuwaiti team.
KUWAIT, March 6 (KUNA) — Qadsia Basketball team revived hopes for winning the league’s title after defeating the defending champion Kazma 86-58 in the 41st week of Kuwait’s 51st basketball league, Wednesday night. After the win, Qadsia’s tally in the competition rose to 48 points. Qadsia players led by Fahad Al-Subaie, Abdullah Al-Sarraf, Mohammad Salmeen, along with two U.S professional players were able to win, despite critical loss among Kazma players due to missing players like Mohammad Ashknani, Abdulaziz Al-Rubaia. In other matches, Al-Nasr defeated Al-Shabab 85-73, while Arabi beats Sulaibkhat 83-72, and finally Salmia win against Tadamun 67-56.
Sheikha Fareeha Lauds Achievements of Kuwaiti Shooters
KUWAIT, March 6 (KUNA) — Sheikha Fareeha Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, chairperson of Kuwait ideal family association, on Wednesday commended the achievements made by Kuwait male and female shooters during the recent local and regional championships.
Speaking to reporters here, Sheikha Fareeha, also chairperson of Kuwaiti females sporting club, said the Kuwaiti female shooters have had high profile in the just ended Arab championship and His Highness the Amir’s championship. She made the remarks after medal giving ceremony of the Arab championship held at Sabah Al-Ahmed Olympic Shooting Range here. She welcomed the participants in the games, appreciating the efforts made by the organizers of the event.
Meanwhile, Sheikh Hamad Bin Hamad Al-Khalifa, deputy chairman of the Bahraini shooting federation, hailed the impressive success of championship and the efforts of the higher organizing committee. Kuwaiti female shooter Sarah Al-Hwal voiced great joy for winning the gold medal of the women trap competition. She dedicated, in statements to KUNA, the medal to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah who sponsors sports in Kuwait.
