The World In Conversation Project – Kuwait (WIC-Kuwait) organizes live video dialogues between Kuwaiti youth and American students in the United States to constructively discuss cultural similarities and differences.
Facilitators on both sides ensure an emotionally secure and positive space for participants to share their thoughts and question their perspectives. The conversations are held every week at the AWARE Center in Surra, and you may contact them at wickuwait@gmail.com for further info. WORLD IN CONVERSATION PROJECT
Mission:
The mission of the World In Conversation Project is to create dialogues about social and cultural issues that expand perspectives and invite greater understanding between people–locally and globally.
Method:
Using the Socratic Method and honest, open-ended questions, facilitators take an ideologically neutral position that allows participants from all groups to candidly excavate their personal stories, experiences, and views. This approach makes possible the meaningful and productive navigation of complex, contentious issues.
Philosophy:
The expression of one’s viewpoint on an issue is the beginning of an individual’s greater understanding and knowledge of that issue. And the experience of doing so in a group setting can create a synergy between participants that advances critical thinking, community, bridge building, and self-understanding.
ABOUT THE AWARE CENTER
The Advocate for Westerners-Arab Relations center is a non-profit, non-governmental, and non-political organization working for promoting positive, constructive relations between Westerners and Arabs by organizing social activities and information services related to Arab and Islamic culture. “It is through culture that we preserve our heritage, that we express our creativity and that we share our individuality with the world,” said Assistant Manager Dr. Teresa Lesher at AWAREs inauguration ceremony in October 2003. Over the years, AWARE has built a reputation as a consistent, trusted, and reliable resource for westerners in Kuwait.
Our Mission
The AWARE center is dedicated to become the cultural gateway for westerners to explore Arab/Islamic culture and civilization by facilitating social encounters, educational activities, dialogue, cultural exchange, and intercultural friendship.
Our Core Values
AWARE is guided by Arab and Islamic humanitarian values which advocate peaceful co-existence between cultures and civilizations. Among key values AWARE promotes are tolerance, better understanding and mutual respect between the westerners and Arab/Islamic world
