Kuwait is on the verge of a new era in public transportation. The country is planning to develop its own rail and metro projects as part of the GCC’s wider efforts to improve public transportation networks and its connectivity with neighbors. Kuwait rail system will reach 550km upon completion and will cover the northern and southern parts of the country as well as critical infrastructure such as airports and railway stations.
The project is part of the $25bn planned Gulf railway network aiming to kink the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states together. The GCC railway network will subsequently link the GCC members to Yemen in the south and to Europe in the north. Another mega project is the Kuwait metro which involves the construction of a 171 km-long metro network with more than 60 stations along four lines running across Kuwait City. Some 65 per cent of the network will be above ground on an elevated track. The project also includes an interchange station, electricity substations and maintenance workshops. Kuwait Metro is likely to go ahead simultaneously with the GCC metro network in Abu Dhabi and Doha. All these projects will be completed by 2017. Held for the second time, Kuwait Metro & Rail Conference and Exhibition is a unique international event for rail professionals, consultants, contractors, suppliers and investors. It is a one-stop platform to discuss the future of rail infrastructure, including planning, expansion, execution, project funding models, operations, maintenance, station management, civil and construction work, cutting-edge technologies of signaling, telecommunication, rolling stocks, tunneling, power and electrification and track management. The event will provide a superb platform to network, exchange ideas, seek business opportunities and to tap into the experience of key industry leaders. Click HERE to register for this event!
